Karnataka poll battle heats up, Rahul calls it a ‘war of ideology between BJP and Congress’

Karnataka poll battle heats up, Rahul calls it a 'war of ideology between BJP and Congress'Karnataka: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Narendra Modi government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at an election rally in poll-bound Karnataka. Accusing the Modi government of benefitting the rich people, Rahul Gandhi said “it’s a war of ideology between the BJP and the Congress”.

Encouraging Congress workers to put in their best efforts during poll campaign in Karnataka, the Gandhi scion said, “Every Congress worker will show the strength of the party to the BJP, the whole party is fighting as one. And when the Congress becomes one, no one in the world can defeat it.”

Asserting that people in Karnataka were with him in the battle against the BJP, the Congress chief said, “Wherever am going to in Karnataka, people are showing me love, and Congress is going to form government in the state.”

“We will come to power in Karnataka and work for the poor and the under-privileged. And as soon as we come in Centre, we will give you real GST,” he added.

He further hit out at the Modi government at the Centre over demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST), saying while the BJP called notes ban a fight against corruption, people in “suit-boot” stole money from banks.

“It was the same money that you took out from your pockets and put in banks. Modi ji knows Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi very well but never mentions their names in his speeches. He doesn’t tell you that Nirav Modi ran away with Rs 30,000 crore of your money,” said the Congress president.

Talking about GST, the Gandhi scion said that people were promised relief with implementation of one tax, but ultimately it turned out to be “Gabbar Singh Tax, which destroyed small businesses like toy and silk industries as the big players did not buy them because of GST”.

He further accused the Modi government of not doing anything for the benefit of farmers. He said that farmers folded their hands before PM Modi for farm loan waiver, instead he waived off loans of his corporate friends.

“I went to his office and told him that he should give relief to farmers, he did not even answer my questions. I asked the same question to Siddaramaiah, he gave a relief of Rs 8,000 crore within 10 days to the farmers,” said Rahul Gandhi.

He also lauded the Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka for moves like free education for girls and Indira canteens. “We did what we promised,” he said.
