M. Karunanidhi warns Alagiri of disciplinary action

M. Karunanidhi warns Alagiri of disciplinary actionAlagiri’s remarks against my view are not only regrettable but also condemnable, DMK president Karunanidhi said. Seeking to distance himself from former Union Minister M.K.Alagiri’s remarks against Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday said his comments were not just regrettable but also condemnable.

In his interview, Mr. Alagiri said he would never consider Vijayakant as a politician as he lacked political decency. The actor-turned-politician also, while addressing the general council meeting on Sunday, revealed that he joined the AIADMK alliance in the 2011 Assembly elections because of Alagiri’s harsh remarks at that time.

Karunanidhi also warned of stringent action against Mr. Alagiri and those who needlessly expressed controversial opinions and violated party discipline. Disciplinary action will be initiated against them and they will be removed from the party. This applies to all partymen, he said.

Karunanidhi said when there was a discussion on the possibility of an alliance between the DMK and the DMDK and when people of Tamil Nadu were keen on having such a formation, some sections of the media were publishing malicious reports against leaders of both the parties.

These newspapers are not able to digest the prospects of an agreement between the two parties. If Mr. Alagiri said that he was against an alliance, the DMK has nothing to do with his views. Alliance can be decided by the general council or the party high command authorized by the general council, he said.
