#NewDelhi: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party leader and UP Ex CM Akhilesh Yadav inched closer towards sealing the deal on the seat-sharing formula ahead of the Lok Sabha polls this year, said sources.
SP president met Mayawati to propose the alliance; however, no official statement was made by any of the parties. As per the sources, SP and BSP have agreed to contest 37 Lok Sabha seats each while the remaining 6 seats will be left for the Congress, and Rashtriya Lok Dal . reported news agency PTI.
The meeting was held on Friday evening, at around 6 pm when SP chief reached Mayawati’s residence. The meeting between the two lasted for about two hours during which the allotment of seats was decided. Both of them have also decided about the name of the candidates set to contest from key constituencies. To ensure that there is no dispute of any kind both the parties have decided to contest the upcoming polls on an equal number of seats.
BSP was wiped out in the 2014 Lok Sabha election and in the 2017 Assembly election, it won just 19 seats. It is evident that the 2019 Lok Sabha general elections will be a fight for survival for the BSP supremo and her party. by Agency,
