New Delhi: A day after terror accused Aseemanand allegedly named Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for his involvement in the 2007 terror attacks, a hand written letter by the former denying the statements has come to the fore.
In the letter accessed by CNN-IBN, he has claimed that he did not give any interview to the Caravan magazine. He admitted that a reporter disguised as a lawyer came to meet him on a few occasions but he never took the names of Mohan Bhagwat name or RSS leader Indresh Singh.
Aseemanand in the letter has described the sequence of events and said that she had approached him on various occasions but he had always denied speaking to her. He also said that she approached him to talk about the social work he was involved in.
However, the Caravan magazine has come out in its defence and said Aseemanand was backtracking due to immense pressure on him by the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The magazine also added that all its claims about the interview were backed by evidence.
“We have the entire transcript that makes it clear from the very first conversation that everything is happening with his consent,” editor of the Caravan magazine Vinod Jose said.
Jose also claimed that the terror accused himself said that he wanted his side of the story to be heard and he appreciated the efforts taken by the reporter to travel to various places to do the story.
Jose further added that they will soon be releasing the audio transcript of the entire interview that was done in four parts and is of nine hour duration. “We are going to release the entire transcript of Aseemanand. We did four interviews with him of a total duration of 9 hours, he said. Meanwhile, there have been massive protests at the Caravan magazine’s office in New Delhi for running the story.
