Hurriyat Conference praises the tenure of NDA government over Kashmir issueSrinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chief of Hurriyat Conference has said that the National Democratic Alliance government was more serious about solving the Kashmir issue than the Congress led UPA government in the Centre is. Farooq also said that he is hopeful that BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi will look into the Kashmir issue seriously if the NDA forms the government at the Centre.

While praising the steps taken by NDA government during its tenure, he said, “We are hopeful Modi at the Centre would pick up the threads of the stalled dialogue process. It’s not a question of endorsing modi, for the people of J&K; we have always maintained that Kashmir is a political problem.”

He also attacked on Congress over Kashmir issue and said that there was a forward movement over the matter during Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

He said, “During the previous NDA government time we saw that when Vajpayee was heading it, there was movement forward, there were talks with Pakistan, there were talks with Hurriyat conference. I think if there is some genuine movement towards resolution of Kashmir issue if Modi comes to power, definitely we will feel that we can move toward a solution”. “UPA had a 10 year long span being in power but unfortunately nothing moved as far as the Kashmir issue is concerned.”
