Hyderabad is on fire, TRS leaders & activists arrested

Hyderabad: Two MLAs of Telangana Rashtra Samithi climb on party’s Laguslature building on Friday. They two MLAs are Kaveti Sammaiah and Vinay Bhaskar who climbed on building. They both threaten to police not to break the door or else they will jump. This apart, there was no respite from the arrests as the police did not spare pro-Telangana activists, including elected representatives and whisked them away in police vehicles. They were trying to march to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to press the demand for a separate Telangana state.

Members of Parliament Manda Jagannath and G.Vivekanand were taken into preventive custody from Nizam Club opposite the Assembly. Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel entered the CPI and AITUC offices in Himayat Nagar and arrested several party leaders and activists. CPI State secretary Dr. K. Narayana alleged that the police entering their office was illegal and termed the attitude of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy as dictatorial.

Taking to reporters, leaders of TRS and BJP, including T. Harish Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, B. Vinod Kumar charged that the government has been trying to claim its effort to thwart the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme by deploying over 30,000 police forces in Hyderabad as its moral victory.

“We strongly condemn the police repression. Our democratic right to express dissent is being suppressed,” said Vivek, who along with Jagannatham recently quit Congress to join the TRS.

People of the region have shown their commitment to the cause and succeeded in reaching Hyderabad at least in small numbers overcoming all obstacles and repressive measures, they said. Police also forced cable operators across the Telangana region to shutdown the television broadcasts.
