“It was a direct attack on democracy and freedom”- PM

New Delhi, June 5: On Wednesday the chief ministers passed a ‘resolution’ during the conference on internal security and vowed to resist the Red Ultras’ design with all their might where Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh requested states to join hands to finish Maoist violence.

“It was a direct attack on political workers with the intent to intimidate all political workers in order to thwart the political mobilization of the people.”It was a direct attack on democracy and freedom. The Maoists want to overthrow Parliamentary democracy and the Constitution of India through violent means. This must be resisted with all our might”, the resolution said on condemning the “mindless and barbaric” killing of political leaders, workers, innocent civilians and security forces by Maoists in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh on May 25. The resolution was accepted by all chief ministers who gathered here to discuss internal security situation in the country.

The gathering adopted the resolution and offered condolences to the families of the deceased in the last month’s Chhattisgarh violence after the Prime Minister’s inaugural address which emphasized on centre-state cooperation in fighting naxal menace.
The resolution said, “We assure them that we are sensitive to their concerns and will make every effort to bring them into the mainstream of political and social life as well as accelerate developmental activities in their areas to promote the welfare of the people”.
The resolution set the tone of the proposed all-party meeting on June 10 when the government will try to have a political consensus over the ways and means to fight naxalism through coordinated manners across the affected states.
