Nashik: 34 students, who suffered from diarrhea, vomiting and nausea on Wednesday, are found to be a case of gastritis by doctors that cause due to polluted drinking water. Now officials from the tribal development commissionerate have ordered an enquiry into the issue of contaminated water supply to a tribal ashram school in Dhule district.
Additional tribal commissioner S B Hingonekar said, “We have issued a show-cause notice toKasturabai Adivasi Ashramshala located at Tavkheda in Shindkheda taluka, asking for a clarification on whether the water supplied through the tankers was purified and why the students of the ashramshala suffered from vomiting and nausea. Based on their response, action would be initiated against concerned institutions.”
34 students out of 376 in the ashram, of which, 34 – 21 boys and 13 girls – were affected by gastritis.
Official said that contaminated drinking water was supplied to the school on Tuesday. The district health office, which has rejected a case of food poisoning, along with the food and drugs administration (FDA), has taken water samples for further investigations, tribal project officer of Dhule, Avinash Chavan said. Tribal development commissioner Sambhaji Sarkunde had announced that the tribal development department would file a case under the Atrocities Act whenever such incidents occurred. But senior officials said the outcome of the show-cause notice would decide further course of action.
The report would be forwarded to additional tribal commissioner which was filed by the organisation that runs the aided-ashramshala and he has the right to take further action in the case, Chavan added.
