Dehradun: Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Vijay Bahuguna said on Monday, “This is hoping against hope but we can’t declare them dead. The mission to find them out will go on as we still hope that the missing surface and return to their homes.” He also added, “A total of 5748 persons are missing till date since the tragedy devastated large parts of the state about a month ago.”
Whetherthe deadline for finding the missing ended, he said the process of paying monetary relief of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of those dead and missing will begin from Tuesday. But if the missing persons are found, the family will have to return the relief money.
Vijay Bahuguna said to media,”The list of dead will be sent to the chief secretaries of all states.”
An official told that the majority of deaths took place between Kedarnath and Gaurikund, the site of one of India’s holiest pilgrimages of Uttarakhand. Rakesh Sharma, Principal Secretary in charge of rescue and relief operations said, “We know the numbers that were in Kedarnath that day. Then we know normally how many people are in Rambara where the maximum deaths took place.”
Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh has the maximum number of missing people. The approx number of missing in is about 2,000. Madhya Pradesh comes second with a little over 1,000 people missing. Meanwhile several others are missing from the states of Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana.
