Lucknow: Whether our apex court is making strict acts to save women from violence against them but the cases are also increasing day by day. An incident happened in Lucknow where a former army person was arrested on the charge of making obscene phone calls to 23 women on Tuesday. The accused Ram Keval Pandey, 49, was nabbed with the help of 1090 (Women Powerline).
Pandey had been retired as a havaldarin the army and presently working as a security guard at a public sector bank in Gomtinagar. He lives in Viraj Khand of Gomtinagar.
The executive of 1090 said that Pandey was among the list of top 20 lewd callers. He used to note down the numbers of women customers and then make obscene calls to them.
Pankaj Kumar Singh, in charge of Vibhuti Khand police station said, “It was difficult to believe that a 49-year-old man would harass women and make such vulgar comments. But Pandey was caught red-handed when he passed obscene remarks at woman cop in plain clothes.”
A woman harassed by Pandey had lodged a complaint with 1090, following which trap police lay a trap near the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital on Tuesday morning. The office where Pandey works is also located near the hospital.
DIG Lucknow range Navniet Sakera said, “First complaint against Pandey was reported to Powerline in November last year. After being warned, he stopped making calls. But later he bought three more SIM cards and again started harassing women. His audacity increased with time and he started misbehaving with the women constables who tried to counsel him.”
Police recovered three mobile phones and SIM cards used by Pandey to make obscene calls. He has been booked under Sections 294 (obscenity) and 504 (intentional insult) of IPC.
Most of the victims targeted live in Gomtinagar, Chinhat and Indiranagar and frequently visit the bank where Pandey works.
Pandey said he was disowned by his family and started venting out his frustration on women over the phone.
