Jammu: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slamming the Jammu and Kashmir government for stopping senior party leader Arun Jaitley from going to Kishtwar on Sunday in Parliament on Monday. BJP also alleged that the state government had connivance in the communal clashes in Kishtwar.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ordered a judicial probe into the clashes amid allegations that his Home Minister Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, the Kishtwar legislator, allowed the violence to spiral unchecked for hours.
Arun Jaitley said, “Why did the violence go unabated for six-seven hours?” “Somebody has to be accountable. What was the state Home Minister doing there? What were the district collector and Senior Superintendent of Police doing there? Is there a connivance of the state government?”
The BJP leader also questioned the delay in calling in the army. “Was it completely one-sided violence?”
Arun Jaitley is the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, hit out at the state government for stopping him at the Jammu airport on his way to Kishtwar.
“What would have been the level of outrage if any BJP government had stopped the Congress president or anyone else from entering a state? You are trying to censor the political class in Parliament. India’s Parliament is directly concerned. It is a question of India’s sovereignty.”
The state is on high alert after the incidents of arson and violence led to curfew in eight districts yesterday. Educational institutes have been shut and mobile internet services blocked across the state.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah indirectly hit out at the BJP and said, “I appeal to the people not to let the political parties exploit your sentiments. I am using the channels of the media to tell you to not fall prey to rumours. Don’t allow political parties to exploit these rumours.”
