Patna: The curfew has been imposed and continued on Tuesday also in the district town of Nawada in Bihar after the clashes between two communities which claimed at least two lives and left six injured. The state government had invoked National Security Act (NSA) to prevent further clashed.
Nawada District Magistrate Adesh Titarmare said, “The situation is tense but under control, with no report of any fresh clash from anywhere so far.”
Nawada superintendent of police M S Dhillon said that some people from a community ransacked a shop when its owner refused to serve non vegetarian food citing religious reason. Several shops and properties were ransacked and looted in the violence. Fifteen persons have been detained in connection with the communal clashes.
Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar is monitoring the situation and deployed two companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) with 700 armed policemen. Nitish Kumar has appealed to people to help the government ensure peace in the town and asked the officers maintaining the law and order in the district. This communal riot has been triggered out after the altercation at a roadside eatery in Nawada on Friday.
Districts like Nalanda and Gaya were put on high alert.
