Photojournalist gang-raped in south Mumbai

Mumbai RapeMumbai: A 22 year old photojournalist had been gang-raped by five people on Thursday evening in Shakti Mills compound which is situated in Lower Parel in south Mumbai. Girl is in Jaslok hospital and doctors who are attending her said that her condition is stable now.

The accused is an intern with a magazine in Mumbai and was assigned with a male friend. She was assaulted at about 8 PM on Thursday.

The accused and her friend had told in their statement that how two men accosted her, beat up and tied her colleague with a belt and then dragged her into a run down, abandoned building, where three other men joined them and gang-raped the young woman.

After gang rape, the attackers then run away from the spot. Then they two had taken a auto to the Jaslok hospital which was four kilometers away from the spot. Doctors then called the police and informed about this accident.

However police have released the sketches of these five victims and detained twenty people on behalf of statement. Accused had told police that two attackers among five had called each other by the name of Rupesh and Sajid. Four of the men are believed to be in their early 20s and Mumbai’s Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said he suspected they were drug addicts.

Mumbai Police have formed and appointed nine special teams of police to investigate the case and crime branch is also carrying out a parallel probe.

Meanwhile Mumbai police are also investigating if the victims are run away from city by train after raping the girl as the Shakti Mills compound very close to Mahalakshmi station on the western line.
