Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s naming as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, the party’s state unit is set to launch a massive membership drive on Tuesday on the occasion of his 64th birthday. State BJP spokesperson, IK Jadeja, said that the BJP will be “launching a massive drive to enroll one lakh people through each of our cells”. Various BJP cells, dedicated to affairs of minorities, SCs and STs and youths, among others, have been given a target of enrolling one lakh people each during the nine-day drive, which will culminate on the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhayay.
“Besides the enrolment drive, some 20,000 BJP workers will carry out social work to strengthen the organisational structure of the party over the coming nine days,” Jadeja said on Monday. BJP workers will spread awareness about the fight against malnutrition, distribute food at anganwadis, organise medical and blood donation camps and undertake tree plantation to celebrate Modi’s birthday, he said. Modi will be felicitated in Gandhinagar today by Gujarat Gaurav Abhivadan Samiti. Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela cautioned members of a particular community against joining BJP. In an informal chat with reporters in Vadodara, the Leader of Opposition said members of the minority community joining the state’s ruling party is akin to them being “going to the slaughter house” Modi will be felicitated in Gandhinagar tomorrow by Gujarat Gaurav Abhivadan Samiti.
