Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is baffled, amused and exasperated by the court order from Jaipur based on a complaint by a lawyer that his hurts religious sentiments and incites enmity between different groups of people on ground of religion. The lawyer came to the above conclusions on the basis of the film trailer. However, the complainant seems to have read wrong signals. Source said close to SLB, “How can Ram Leela incite enmity on grounds of religion when everyone in the film belongs to the same religious community? Both Ranveer and Deepika are Hindus in the film and so are all the other characters. There is no character, major or minor, belonging to any other community in Ram Leela. Incensed by what is seen as an attempt to provoke legal action against major films before their release, SLB’s team now intends to take stern action against the complainant.
SLB’s team is all set to take legal action against the makers of the Turkish film Benim Dunyam which from the trailers seems like a frame-by-frame adaptation of Black (2005). Contrary to the reports it is not an official remake of Black. Source said to close to SLB. “No one has approached Mr Bhansali for the rights. It is an unauthorised illegal remake. Indian filmmakers are constantly accused of lifting from foreign sources. Benim Dunyam seems blatantly plagiarised version of Black.” With the Turkish film poised for release on October 25, Bhansali is all set to take action against the plagiarists. The source also adds that no attempt was ever made by the Turkish director Ugur Yucel to obtain remake rights. Source says, “When Black was released there were offers from Spain and the US for remake rights. But Mr Bhansali never paid any attention.” Interestingly, few months after Sanjay Bhansali’s directorial debut Khamoshi: The Musical was released, a German film Beyond Silence about a young girl’s struggle to stay put in her deaf-and-mute parents’ world was also released.
