New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the central government on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a voluntary organization that sought news to be broadcast on private FM radio channels. The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam, hearing the plea, asked: “How can you (the government) restrict FM radio channels from broadcasting news, as community radio channels are easily accessible? Lawyer Prashant Bhushan appeared on behalf of the NGO Common Cause, which has questioned bar on broadcast of news on private FM radio channels.
