Hyderabad: A heavy rainfall had hits Andhra Pradesh on Saturday which killed 21 persons. The relief operations are directed by state Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and state administration to be on high alert. 4.34 lakh hectares of crop has been damaged by floods.
Nearly 70,000 peoples from affected areas are moved out to relief camp. The worst affected districts are Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Prakasam, and also the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.
The state has received an average rainfall of between 4 cm and 26 cm in the last 24 hours, according to the Met department.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have already been deployed for relief work.
Guntur district Collector S Suresh Kumar said, “The situation is very grim as the entire Delta area is completely inundated. Drains and tanks are overflowing and there is a threat of breaches occurring at some places because of the nonstop rain.”
According to the office of Chief Minister, Hussain Sagar Lake is full to the brim and the level may cross the danger mark if there is more rain in the capital Hyderabad. Rivers are already overflowing as well as drains and tanks, leading to leaving towns and villages getting inundated.
