Bangalore: The Karnataka Police have launched a hunt and formed special teams to crack the case and alerted districts across the state to look out for the accused. As Jyothi Uday, a manager at Corporation Bank, continues to fight for her life after being attacked inside an ATM kiosk here, the police are yet to nab the accused.
The city police also rushed teams to neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu for help from its counterparts in tracing the accused, which appears to be between 25-35 years. Meanwhile, the police have detained one person from Andhra Pradesh after tracking Jyoti’s phone, which was stolen by the attacker. The arrested person is said to have bought the cell phone from the person, who attacked the 44-year-old.
The 44-year-old bank official was attacked with a machete by an unidentified assailant inside an ATM kiosk Tuesday night. Jyothi was found unconscious in the blood-stained kiosk nearly three hours after the assailant disappeared with her cash (Rs 2,500) and mobile handset. Jyothi Uday worked as a bank manager with Corporation Bank. She has suffered paralysis on the right side, and also a brain injury.
The attack was captured by a CCTV camera at the unguarded ATM kiosk located just metres away from a police station on the ground floor of the LIC building diagonally opposite the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike head office in the Corporation Circle. Police registered a case under Section 397 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which relates to attempting to cause death or grievous injury while committing robbery or dacoit.
