Senior Congress leader and former state chief minister Digvijaya Singh said, The Congress is getting increasingly despondent and desperate. If these charges are true, why didn’t they raise them four years ago? Why are these allegations being leveled days ahead of? Shivraj singh has accused Chouhan’s brother of misusing his proximity to the chief minister to allocate mining rights to undeserving companies.
Chouhan also played down the possibility of him emerging as a counterweight to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi if he won a third term in office. Modi is by far the most popular leader of our party. There is no question of anyone being a counter to Modi. I’m doing my work in Madhya Pradesh while Modi leads the party’s election campaign nationally,” he said. Chouhan enjoys the image of being a more inclusive chief minister than Modi. Unlike the Gujarat Chief Minister, he willingly dons the Muslim skullcap. But he called the controversy around Modi not wearing the skullcap bogus.
“Wearing or not wearing a skull cap is not an issue. This is a bogus controversy. Modi has taken good care of Muslims in Gujarat. Our party does not differentiate between communities on the basis of their religions. If he is elected the prime minister, Narendra Modi and the BJP will take care of all communities,” he said. Chouhan though dodged the question on who would take credit if the BJP again comes to power in Madhya Pradesh. Will the credit go to him or to Modi?
The credit will be shared with everyone in the party. This is not one person’s fight. I’m only a humble party worker. We’ll all share credit if the BJP wins,” he said. Chouhan also rubbished Congress’ allegations that the claims of development in MP were inflated. The Congress suffers from ‘Shivraj phobia,” he said. Asked what his focus will be if elected again, Chouhan said he would dedicate the next five years of his tenure to improving electricity supply in the state. I also want to focus on the small-scale sector and make it better. I want to attract investment to MP. Health and employment will be the core focus areas along with women empowerment and women-led industries.”
