Mumbai: The opposition of Maharashtra state assembly had filed a police complaint against the indicted politicians and bureaucrats in Adarsh scam.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya filed an application on Wednesday, with the Marine Drive police asking them to register a criminal case against alleged conspirators in the Adarsh scam.
Somaiya has named former chief minister Ashok Chavan, union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and others, against whom the Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a charge sheet, in his complaint.
He said he would move the court if the police failed to register his complaint.
“We have received the application and the documents and will probe on the line before registering any case,” said Rajendra Patil, inspector of Marine Drive police station.
A senior minister of Congress said, “Chavan could have avoided embarrassment by refusing a probe by a judicial commission three years ago. Many in the party still believe that he is responsible for the mess, which is too tricky to handle for him and the party.”
Notify that the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithviraj Chavan had to discuss the Adarsh commission report with top bureaucrats ahead of cabinet meeting of Thursday.
Chavan is expected to seek the cabinet’s views on steps to be taken before reviewing the commission’s report as per the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s wish.
However, he is in a spot as a section in his party wants him to allow escape routes for his three predecessors named in the report.
The bureaucrats, too, have petitioned the government citing injustice by the justice JA Patil judicial commission.
Meanwhile, Chavan had an hour-long discussion with chief secretary JS Saharia and his two secretaries about the legal aspects and objections raised by the parties indicted, including the Adarsh housing society.
