AMETHI: AAP leader Kumar Vishwas on Sunday took on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in his bastion and said that he will now stay in Amethi and fight for its people. If anyone thinks that I will run away due to protests and black flags, he is wrong, Kumar Vishwas said targeting the Gandhi family and accusing it of neglecting the people of Amethi over the years.
Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, Kumar Vishwas said that the Congress vice-president had not asked a single question in Parliament about his constituency. He also hit out at Sonia Gandhi and asked, “Why did the Congress president go abroad for treatment?”
The AAP leader was also shown black flags by a group of people while he was passing through Jagdishpur area. The protesters were angry against his purported remarks against a religious event. They also burned the AAP leader’s effigy and said that a person, who does not respect religious sentiments, would not be accepted in Amethi.
The AAP leader, talking to reporters on way to Amethi, said he will focus on corruption in Amethi to end the dynastic rule of the Congress vice-president. It is for the people of Amethi to decide, they have to decide if they want freedom from dynastic rule, the AAP leader said, adding, our duty is to challenge corruption and bring to fore the development issues.
The youth who disrupted the news conference identified himself as Saif Jafari from Bijnore. He claimed himself to be a spokesman of Mulayam Singh Yadav Youth Brigade. He was detained by the police, but was released later as Vishwas refused to press charges.
Vishwas described the incident as an attempt of opposition parties which feel threatened by his party’s rise. He refused to take security. He said that he has already apologized for the poems which were rendered by him in various “kavi sammelans few years ago when he was not into activism and politics. I never said anything intentionally to hurt somebody, AAP leader said.
