Jan Lokpal Bill: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announces his resignationNew Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday resigned after 49 days in office after his Jan Lokpal Bill could not be tabled in assembly of Delhi.

Notify that leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had declared it as introduced it in the assembly amid chaotic scenes and 42 of the 70 MLAs in the assembly voted against it.

On Sunday, Kejriwal had threatened “to go to any extent” for the bill, even if it meant resigning.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had said, “The jan lokpal bill is more important to us than staying in government. We will quit if it is not passed. The government will fall if the jan lokpal and swaraj bills are not passed.”

“This appears to be our last session. I will consider myself fortunate if I have to sacrifice the chief minister’s post 1,000 times and my life to eradicate corruption,” he said in a brief speech in the Assembly after his government suffered defeat on its pet anti-graft legislation.

Sources claimed that “The Chief Minister feels there is no point in remaining in the government.”
