Allahabad: The incharge of Karchana assembly segment and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Vimal Pandey was shot dead by three unknown assailants near Mewalal Ki Bagia trisection under Naini police station on Wednesday evening.
Several workers of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Party had collected at resident of Bhirpur in Karchana block to protest and demanded senior police officials to crack the case at the earliest.
The murder, which comes amid a politically charged atmosphere and just before parliamentary polls, has left the police worried and forced them to pull up their socks. A massive checking and search operation has been launched to nab the killers.
District police chief Umesh Kumar Srivastava said, “The reason behind the brutal murder is yet to be ascertained. We are investigating the killing from different angles including political rivalry and property dispute.”
The victim’s father, Triveni Prasad Pandey, is a lekhpal and posted at Meja tehsil.
SSP Srivastava said, “Three unidentified persons had an altercation with the BJYM leader near a paan shop at 3.40pm and one of them all of a sudden fired at point blank range at him and it resulted in the death of the leader on the spot.”
Locals said that Pandey was first assaulted by his killers who came on two bikes and in a car. They had even fired in air when locals resisted the thrashing of Pandey, just after they shot at him and fled.
BJYM district president Sanjiv Jaiswal said, “Vimal Pandey was appointed the in charge of Karchana assembly segment three months ago as he was doing a good job as far as strengthening the party base in rural pockets was concerned.”
