New Delhi: The National President of Bharatiya Janata Party Rajnath Singh had said that the senior leader of BJP Lal Krishna Advani is free to choose the parliamentary seat from where he wants to contest on Thursday afternoon after a series of top BJP leaders failed today to persuade LK Advani to run for Parliament from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
Rajnath Singh will meet the 87-year-old this evening to attempt a breakthrough. Singh said, “Advani-ji can choose to contest from Bhopal or Gandhinagar. It is his choice, it’s wrong to say he has been sidelined.”
Notify that BJP said it would “prefer” for senior leader L.K. Advani to contest the national election from Gandhinagar for a sixth term yesterday and he wants to relocate to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, governed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, with whom he has been developing a deepening alliance.
The first of many A-list visitors at Advani’s home this morning was Narendra Modi, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Others included Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.
When the hard sell didn’t work, Advani was pinged by the BJP’s ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh whose chief Mohan Bhagwat said the BJP’s top leaders must present a united front.
Sources said that separately, the RSS also reprimanded the BJP for the manner in which Advani was nominated from Gandhinagar though he had, in a meeting with the BJP president, made his preference for Bhopal quite clear.
