Bangalore: Election Commission warned the chief minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah on Thursday for his derogatory remarks against PM candidate of BJP Narendra Modi. EC termed it as violation of poll code. EC also warned him not to make such statements in future.
Notify that while election canvassing in Hassan on Tuesday, Siddaramaiah clarified that he never addressed Modi as murderer, but the BJP government led by Modi as murderer.
He said, “I have not indulged in personal attack.”
The EC had issued show-cause notice to minister Siddaramaiah for his alleged remarks on 4 April following complaint from BJP.
Chief electoral officer in Karnataka Anil Kumar Jha had told that the commission was examining CM’s statement amounted to “personal attack”.
Siddramaiah during election canvassing in Heggadadevanakote (HD Kote) under Mysore Lok Sabha segment, referring to Gujarat riots had allegedly termed Modi a “murderer”.
Both the top leaders of Congress Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara in the state have been indulged in making controversial statements in this election. Besides Siddaramaiah’s murderer statement, Parameshwara had stoked a controversy by taunting JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda that the former PM as promised should consume poison because his party did not win the assembly elections held in 2013.
The JD(S) has filed a complaint against Parameshwara terming it as “personal attack”.
According to Parameshwara, Gowda had said that if JD(S) don’t come to power, he will consume poison and die. “I am also waiting that he will consume it today or tomorrow. He is not consuming it,” the Congress chief had said. He, however, expressed regret over his comments.
