New Delhi: The Election Commission officials confirmed that the voting in 11 states crossed 50 percent. West Bengal registered highest 82 percent polling for 6 Lok Sabha seats while Uttar Pradesh recorded 58.58 votes for 12 Lok Sabha seats.
Madhya Pradesh recorded 64.4 percent turnout for 10 seats, Tamil Nadu saw 73 percent polling for 39 seats and Rajasthan 59.2 percent for 5 seats, the EC officials informed. Maharashtra recorded 55.33 percent voter turnout for 19 seats that went to polls today while voting in metropolis Mumbai was dismal for its six seats. In Chhattisgarh, records 62.5 percent turnout, Bihar 60 percent for 7 seats each, Jharkhand 63.4 percent for 4 seats and Assam registered 77.05 percent for 6 seats.
Voting has ended in Assam and with 77 percent of the voters exercising their franchise in the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls in the state. However, the polling was marred by few untoward incidents. One policeman was killed by a mob and EVM malfunctioning was reported in many polling centres but those were replaced.
A total of 59.04 per cent voting was recorded till 5 pm in Madhya Pradesh, where polling is underway for 10 Lok Sabha seats in the final phase amid reports of poll boycott from a village in Khargone district.
Following are the polling figures in 10 seats across Madhya Pradesh: Vidisha (59.35%), Dewas (60.62%), Ujjain (56.10%), Mandsaur (64.29%), Ratlam (62.14%), Dhar (59.40%), Indore (50.88%), Khargone (63.60%), Khandwa (64.59%) and Betul (50.78%), the CEO said adding the turnout will further go up as polling will continue till 6 PM.
West Bengal saw heavy turnout till 5 pm with 79 percent electorates casting their votes in the state. Following is the polling percentage in the constituencies in Bengal: Raiganj 79.78%; Jangipur 79%; Murshidabad 82.24%; Malda North 80.67%; Malda South 80.16%; Balurghat: 82.84%
Last phase of voting ends in six parliamentary constituencies in Assam. A policeman was killed in a mob attack. Long queues were seen at many polling stations in the state. After lukewarm response, voting has picked up slightly in Maharashtra where turnout till 3 pm has been recorded over 35 percent. Earlier till 1 pm, None of six constituencies in the metropolis Mumbai saw a voter turnout over 30 percent.
As polling was tepid in the six constituencies in Mumbai in Maharashtra, Bengal on the other hand recorded 70 percent turnout till 3 pm. Tamil Nadu also witnessed heavy turnout with 60 percent electorates casting their votes till 3 pm. In Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, 50 percent and 47 percent voting respectively was registered.
While voting has been peaceful in other parts of country, one policeman was killed in Assam where voter turnout was recorded over 50 percent till 3 pm. And, it’s not just Mumbai, many other constituencies that went to polls in Maharashtra today are witnessing lukewarm response to voting.
Only an average of 27.52% voter turnout was recorded till 1 pm from across the 19 Lok Sabha constituencies. Nandurbar 35.50%, Dhule 31.65%, Jalgaon 28.50%, Raver 32.08%, Jalna 32.43%, Aurangabad 32.30%, Dindori 29%, Nashik 27%, Palghar 22.86%, Bhivandi 19.22%, Kalyan 23.60% and Thane 19.65%.

the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2014 in 117 seats is witnessing heavy polling in most seats. While 40% turnout was recorded in Rajasthan till 1 pm, in Tamil Nadu 40% votes were cast by 12 noon. West Bengal led the 10 other states and one union territory in polling percentage – 51% till noon.

Over 37% voting was recorded till noon during the third and final phase of polling in Assam’s six Lok Sabha seats. Guawhati 40%, Kokrajhar 41%, Dhubri 39%, Barpeta 34%, Mangaldoi 35% and Nowgong 32%. In Chhattisgarh, about 20% electorate cast their votes in the first three hours of polling in seven Lok Sabha constituencies – Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh, Surguja, Korba – till 10 am.
Latest poll percentages: 29% voting was registered during the initial hours ton the second polling day in five constituencies in Rajasthan. Over 24.63% voters exercised their franchise in Uttar Pradesh till 11 am, where polling is going on in 12 seats in the third phase to decide fate of 188 candidates. Hathras 26.4%, Mathura 28%, Agra 28.6%, Fatehpur Sikri 26.02%, Firozabad 28.7%, Mainpuri 21%, Etah 20.28% Hardoi 21.8%, Farukhabad 25.4%, Etawah 23.3%, Kannauj 25.4% and Akbarpur 20.4%
Despite the summer heat, voters across 19 seats in Maharashtra are coming out in strength to the polling booths. However, voters in Mumbai appear reluctant to come out early in the day. The city recorded just 8% voting till 9 am.However, people in Uttar Pradesh are voting in strength in this phase as well with 11% voting recorded in the first two hours of voting.
Voting percentages: 15% in Bihar till 10 am, 14.31% in Tamil Nadu and Heavy polling recorded in West Bengal. 22%, 21% and 20% polling in Malda North, Malda South and Balurghat constituency till 9 am. BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi urges votes across 117 constituencies to come out and vote in record numbers.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan says that he is confident that the BJP will get 272 on its won and the NDA will win more than 300 seats. “The country wants change; there is their wave that wants Modi ji to become the prime minister of the country,” he told a news channel.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalathaa casts her vote, refuses to comment on political development. “Request all parties and public to cooperate with EC to ensure a peaceful election,” she said. BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj and PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti are among those whose fate will be sealed today. While Swaraj is the party candidate from Vidisha in MP, Mufti is contesting from Anantnag in the Kashmir valley.
Another key seat is Dumka in Jharkhand were JMM chief Shibu Soren is up against a formidable opponent in Babulal Marandi of the JVM. Chhattisgarh is also witnessing some key battles. While senior BJP leader Ramesh Bais hopes to retain Raipur, BJP Mahila Morcha national president Saroj Panday is engaged in a tough fight with Tamradwaj Sahu of the Congress in Durg. BJP rebel Karuna Shukla is also in the fray as the Congress candidate from Bilaspur.
Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan and Sonam Kapoor were among the first to cast their votes in Mumbai. Six seats in the metropolis are among the 19 seats were voting is being held today. There is no challenge for us, infact we are a challenge to others, says Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav after casting his vote in Saifai. Mulayam is the party candidate from Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. He is also in the fray from Azamgarh in eastern UP.
All 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state are voting today in what has turned out to be four-cornered contest between the AIADMK, DMK, Congress and the BJP-led NDA alliance.
Voting began at 7 am in 117 constituencies spread across 11 states and one union territory in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls 2014. All seats – 39 -in Tamil Nadu, 19 in Maharashtra, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Madhya Pradesh, seven each in Bihar and Chhattisgarh, six each in Assam and West Bengal, five in Rajasthan, four in Jharkhand, one in Jammu and Kashmir and one in Puducherry are voting today.
The largest round of polling for 121 seats was held in April 17. Of the 117 seats voting today, the Congress had won 36 in 2009, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 26, the DMK 18, the AIADMK 9 and the Samajwadi Party 5. Voting for 349 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be completed with the sixth phase today, leaving the last three stages. Counting will be held on May 16.
