New Delhi: PM Manmohan Singh will chair his last Cabinet meet on today, a day before a farewell dinner being hosted by Congress president Sonia Gandhi on May 14 for him. Manmohan Singh Singh will be demitting his office on May 17, a day after the results of General Elections are out.
The 81-year-old leader Manmohan Singh, who has been prime minister since 2004 at the head of a Congress-led UPA coalition, had announced that “in a few months time, after the General Election, I will hand the baton over to a new prime minister.
The dinner by Gandhi, who is also UPA Chairperson, comes two days before the announcement of results of Lok Sabha elections. During the farewell dinner, Dr Singh will be presented a memento signed by all CWC Members and Union Ministers, sources said.
Congress leaders had always spoken of the relationship between the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi as an ideal division of labour, which saw perfect harmonization between the government and the party.
AICC has always maintained that there cannot be any better relationship between a party president and a Prime Minister and had often dismissed as “rumours and disinformation” reports of differences between the two.
