Chhattisgarh Governor resignsNew Delhi: Shekhar Dutt, Governor of Chhattisgarh had resigned from his post on Thursday and has submitted his resignation letter to President Pranab Mukherjee.

All Governors appointed by the Congress were likely to submit their resignation and those who refuse to resign could be transferred by the government, said source.

Meanwhile, Karanataka Governor HR Bharadwaj said, “No one asked me for it and I won’t resign. Meeting President was a courtesy call.”

Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit, too, was undecided on resigning from her post. Sheila Dikshit had refused to comment and said, “I can’t react to rumors.”

She was appointed as the Governor of Kerala following poll debacle in the Assembly elections in December 2013.

Sources claimed that the Centre was planning to remove 5 governors including Joshi. Others included the governors of Kerala, Punjab, Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.

The step was being taken so that the BJP can give the post to their veteran leaders who could not find a place in the Modi Cabinet.
