New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a plea by Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) to stop the former BCCI president N Srinivasan from contesting for the ICC chief post
the apex court rejected the plea for the second time in two weeks. The news has certainly come out as big relief for Srinivasan who is now all set to be elected as the first chairman of the new-look International Cricket Council (ICC).
The court said this after the counsel opposing the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) plea told the told court that the bench headed by Justice J.S Khehar had declined the plea last Thursday.
The defunct CAB Secretary Aditya Verma had called on the Asian Cricket Council to bar N Srinivasan from heading the body, saying allowing him to do so would be in violation of a Supreme Court order.
Srinivasan has been forced to step aside as BCCI president on the directions of the Supreme Court in the wake of the ongoing probe into the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal.
It is unfair if it was mentioned earlier,” the court said senior counsel Nalini Chidambaram. She had urged the court to hold an early hearing for the CAB plea.
Back in February, a resolution was passed during a meeting of the ICC that authorised N Srinivasan to chair the ICC Board from mid-2014 which will be the primary decision-making body.
