New Delhi: As the crime graph in Uttar Pradesh increases, Union home ministry appears to be veering towards the idea that the state in its present size is “ungovernable” and should be divided. Notify that the rape and murder of women and killing of three BJP leaders within a space of week had led Union government to reach to that decision. It is also notify that the state government of Uttar Pradesh is unable to control the crime and give assurance to the public of state.
A senior home ministry official confirmed that such a proposal was being looked at seriously even as Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting on Thursday with state DGP AL Banerjee and Principal Secretary (Home) of Uttar Pradesh, Deepak Singhal, on law and order of state.
Chief Minister Akhilesh later called on the prime minister.
State unit chief Laxmikant Bajpai met with Governor BL Joshi and protested the killing of BJP leaders in the last week or so. He said, “We are concerned that things are going from bad to worse in the state.”
Sangeet Som of BJP said, “Unless the Centre intervenes in the matter, the situation in Uttar Pradesh will go from bad to worse.”
He said, “I, for one, am not going to silently watch as our people are hunted down and young girls abducted and killed on a daily basis. I will agitate and raise this issue on the streets, I feel that the NDA government should seriously take note of the jungle raj in UP.”
He said, “It is in the nature of the SP government that large-scale law and order violations take place, as CM has no control and each SP MLA and MLC or even party workers feels entitled to break the law. If this government is allowed to continue for the rest of its tenure, which is another two-and-a-half years, the state will be finished.”
