Lucknow: Youth wing of BJP and activists of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha had protest over law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
The protesters gathered in front of state assembly while it was in session and tried to march towards the assembly building, forcing cops to lathicharge and use tear gas shells.
The BJYM workers attempted to gherao the state assembly this afternoon, BJP spokesman Manish Shukla said.
Shukla said nearly 50 BJYM activists were injured in the police lathicharge.
BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak alleged that police acted in a “barbaric” manner against BJYM activists protesting as a part of series of agitations by BJP.
He said BJP had been continuously protesting peacefully inside and outside the Vidhan Sabha to attract the attention of the government.
However, BJP MLAs had raised the issue in the assembly and condemned police action.
