Hyderabad: The transfer of 136 villages, 211 hamlets and seven mandals of Khammam District in Telengana to the successor state of Andhra Pradesh as a result of passage of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2014 in Lok Sabha.
Reports claimed that for the construction of Polavaram irrigation project, villages in Khammam District in Telangana will have merged with the East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh.
The project involves the linking of the Krishna and Godavari Rivers. The dam to be built in the district of West Godavari would enable the storing of 832,000 million cubic feet of water. This is expected to result in irrigating an additional 232,000 acre in Andhra Pradesh.
This project had been declared as a ‘national project’ by Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Meanwhile Left parties on Friday called for a bandh in Telangana on Saturday in protest against the Lok Sabha passing a bill which paves way for the transfer of some villages in the state of Andhra Pradesh for the construction of Polavaram irrigation project.
