Alert of heavy rainfall issued in UttarakhandDehradun: The MeT department of Uttarakhand had issued an alert of heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand in next 48 hours. It had been expected that maximum rainfall can took place in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Almora.

The local administration had been asked to get ready for the heavy rainfall in Gangotri and Yamunotri. An official of MeT department said that they had asked all the district administration to remain prepared with safety precautions.

The District Magistrate of UttarKashi Ravishankar said, “The water level in the Bhagirathi river is at 1,120 metre as of now, which is normal. We need to be on high alert if it crosses 1,122 metre and only when it crosses 1,123 metre it would cross the danger mark. We are keeping a close check after the warning of heavy rainfall from the MeT department in the next two days and arrangements have been made to tackle any emergency situations. Sensitive pockets have been identified and some families staying near the riverbed have been moved to safer locations.”

Rainfall had been expected 50mm-144mm in the next 24 hours in Uttarkashi.
