Hyderabad: A Legislature of Bharatiya Janata Party had generated the controversy after he opposes Tannis star Sania Mirza for becoming the brand ambassador for newly formed state from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana. BJP MLA K Laxman had even called her the daughter in law of Pakistan as she had married with Pakistani Cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010.
Laxman hit out state government and raise the issue in the Assembly. He said, “Sania Mirza can’t become Telangana brand ambassador. She now lives in Pakistan.”
He blamed the Telangana government and claimed that this appointment had highlighted the double standard of state government and denied to apologise for what he said.
He said, “The Chief Minister should explain why he has chosen Sania Mirza as brand ambassador. This is double standard. The government is not following its own rule of pre-1956. Why VVS Laxman was not considered?”
Notify that Sania had been appointed as ‘Brand Ambassador’ of Telangana on Tuesday. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao handed over a letter of appointment and also a cheque of Rs 1 crore to Sania at an interaction session with industrialists.
During the occasion, CM said, “Telangana is proud of Sania who is a true Hyderabadi. She’s now ranked number five in international tennis and we wish she becomes the number one.”
