Harsh Vardhan seeks detailed report of Sunanda Pushkar’s autopsy

Harsh Vardhan seeks detailed report of Sunanda Pushkar’s autopsyNew Delhi: Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan had asked the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) on Wednesday for the detailed report on allegations that the head of forensics department was forced to change the autopsy report of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar.

The head of the team who conducted the autopsy of Sunanda Pushkar, Dr Sudhir Gupta had alleged that he was forced by a UPA minister to alter the report.

Harsh Vardhan said, “After TV news reports yesterday about the allegation, I have written to the AIIMS director asking for a detailed report.”

Pushkar was found dead in a Delhi hotel on January 17. Her death was termed as “sudden” and “unnatural”.

Dr Gupta has, however, said he stood by his report and did not change it.

Report claimed that Dr Gupta has written to the health ministry and the chief vigilance commission complaining that he was pressured to show it as a “natural death”.

Dr Gupta has claimed that he is being targeted because he did not bow to the pressure and gave a report stating that Sunanda’s death was caused by drug poisoning that could be both suicidal or homicidal.

Sources said that the governing body of the hospital had recently approved a proposal to promote another doctor from the forensics department and Gupta feared that he could be replaced.

It said that doctor has also filed a complaint with the central administrative tribunal (CAT) in this regard.
