New Delhi: After the massive protests of the aspirants of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) against Hindi and other regional language in Delhi, Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel had said on Friday that the issuing of admit cards for the preliminary examinations should not cause anxiety to the students and that they should call off their agitation against the government.
Singh also ensure aspirants that they will not be discriminated on behalf of language. “There won’t be any injustice, especially on the basis on language. However, students must also show some patience,” he said.
Jitendra Singh said, “The issuing of admit cards should not be a cause of worry. UPSC is working according to its calendar year. We are waiting for the report of the high level committee. All demands of students will be considered on the basis of that. The students should not be worried, the PM is aware of the matter.”
The issue reached Parliament on Friday with Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjuna Kharge appealing for suspension of the Question Hour. The Rajya Sabha, too, witnessed repeated adjournments over the matter.
Protesting students were detained from near Rail Bhawan in Delhi when they were marching to Parliament to make their voices heard.
A three-member committee is looking into the demands of civil services aspirants who have been demanding that the pattern for the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) be changed to give level-playing field to those coming from rural areas.
On Thursday evening, the Delhi Police arrested more than 20 students after violence over the UPSC row.
The UPSC aspirants clashed with police, burning vehicles, including a police jeep, and pelting stones near the main highway by-pass road in North Delhi’s Burari area.
“A police jeep was set on fire. One roadways bus was partially burnt in the incident along with some bikes and cars. Police used force to disperse them from main roads,” Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Goel said, adding, some policemen were injured in the incident.
