New Delhi: Legendary actress Zohra Sehgal had died on Thursday at the age of 102. A Padma Vibhushan awardee, Sehgal breathed her last at Max hospital here around 4:30pm on Thursday.
Her daughter Kiran said, “She died of a cardiac arrest this afternoon. She was unwell for last three-four days.”
The last rites of the 102-year-old actress were performed at the Lodhi Road crematorium by her son Pawan in the presence of her daughter Kiran and grandchildren.
Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, theatre personality MK Raina and Prasar Bharti CEO Jawahar Sircar were among those who turned up to pay their last respect.
Azmi said, “I worked with her for the first time in a play in 2002. She was around 90-year-old at that time. She was always punctual at the rehearsals. She was a thorough professional and always had a smile on her face. She always used to crack jokes.”
A Padma Shri awardee, she also received the Padma Vibhshan in 2010.
