Ludhiana: An unemployed man allegedly threw a shoe towards Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at a function in Isru of Khanna about fifty kilometres from here. Police had claimed that 36-year-old Vikram Kumar is convenor of Aam Aadmi party in Dhanaula, Barnala.
Notify that CM Badal had come to observe the death anniversary of Kartar Singh Isru, freedom fighter of the village when the man hurled a shoe towards him but it missed the target.
Gurinder S Dhillon DIG Ludhiana Range had said that the accused is convenor of AAP in Dhanaula and that his aim was to grab attention to generate funds and to rise in hierarchy. He added that the accused had joined AAP few months ago and was working at a cloth shop.
He was accompanied by three other members including Hardeep Singh, Mahinder Pal Dhanjian who recorded the footage of the shoe-throw drama.
The DIG claimed that the accused had recorded the video and was aiming to circulate it to the media to gain publicity.
Since full proof security measures were in place, the shoe did not reach the chief minister, he added.
A senior police official said that the accused was arrested from the tent only at around 1.30pm whereas his accomplice managed to flee.
He added that the chief minister had just started to deliver his speech when they carried out this incident.
The DIG said that the accused has been put under preventive detention and police are exploring legal angle to book him under criminal offence. He added that efforts are being made to nail the other accused.
