New Delhi: The recent statement of Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over the 2012 brutal gang-rape in Delhi had generated controversy. Jaitley claimed that after the gang-rape case had hit the tourism sector and cause the loss of millions of dollars.
While addressing a conference of state tourism ministers on Thursday, FM said, “As a part of the red carpet glean for the tourists, our law and order – ‘one small incident of rape in Delhi’ advertised world-over is enough to cost us billions of dollars in terms of lower tourism.”
After the statement of FM, the father of Nirbhaya had termed the statement of Arun Jaitley as ‘irresponsible’.
He said that the statement of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had deeply disappointed him. He said that such type of statements had encourages those who commit such crimes.
He questioned FM for linking the gruesome incident to the losses incurred by the tourism industry.
He asked, “A honest citizen lost her life, isn’t that a loss to the nation?”
Notify that Arun Jaitley had given controversial statement on Thursday after which the father of Nirbhaya had reacted.
Jaitley said, “One incident of rape in Delhi was enough to cost million dollars in terms of lower number of tourists. We have national responsibility and God has given us everything which tourists want to see, we just have to catalyse that process and make sure of that we take right step.”
NCW member Nirmala Samant had sharply reacted over the comment of FM and claimed it very unfortunate and shocking.
Even though Jaitley has apologised for his remarks, Nirbhaya’s parents and political parties across the country have criticised his statement.
