Hyderabad: The newly formed government of newly formed state Telangana had began a survey to identify the real beneficiaries that are to be covered under various state welfare schemes despite intense criticism from several quarters and fears of ethnic profiling.
The “Intensive Household Survey”, being compared with the General Elections in size would cover an estimated 84 lakh families living in Telangana and involve about four lakh government employees, including police personnel and teachers.
Roads in Hyderabad today wore a deserted look in contrast to heavy traffic witnessed in the morning hours usually.
Meanwhile state government has declared a holiday for the day and appealed to the people to stay at homes for the purpose of the survey.
Public transport buses and trains witnessed huge rush of people over the last few days travelling to their native places in view of the survey.
