New liquor policy into law in Kerala?Thiruvananthapuram: The High Court of Kerala had ordered to the state government ton Tuesday to make a new policy on liquor of limiting bar licenses to just 5 star hotels into a law.

The state government on Tuesday informed the court about its new liquor policy by which it plans to make the state alcohol-free in the next 10 years. The court asked the state to take further steps in making the new policy into a law.

418 bars that have been closed down over poor facilities will not be issued fresh licenses and licenses of remaining 312 bars will also not be renewed, claimed United Democratic Front (UDF) government in its new liquor policy.

The government has also decided to issue notices to hotels below the five-star category to shut their bars by September 12.

Excise Minister K Babu said to media that notices would be issued to hoteliers on August 28, asking them to wind up liquor sales within 15 days.
