SC asked Centre over its status of LoP postNew Delhi: Supreme Court had questioned to the Narendra Modi’s government about their status of the Leader of Opposition post in Lok Sabha on Friday. The apex court had questioned that why there is no Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

The court has agreed to interpret the LoP provision for the purpose of the appointment of the Lokpal in which the LoP is a selection committee member. The court said that the issue can’t be prolonged and that the Lokpal Act can’t be put in the cold storage and ordered the government to take quick action. The court has given the government four weeks to respond.

SC while highlighting the importance of LoP in Parliament said that it conveys the voice different from the government in the House.

The court said, “LoP is a very important component under the Lokpal Law. There needs to be an objective consideration on the same.”

Supreme Court had questioned to Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi that how the Lokpal will be appointed if there is no LoP.
