New Delhi: The Supreme Court had dismissed the petition which seeks the removal of ministers having criminal past. The apex court on Wednesday said, “We leave it to the wisdom of the Prime Minister whether to appoint people with criminal background or not.”
A bench of Chief Justice of India and five other judges had heard the petition.
Notify that it was argued in previous hearing that ministers having a criminal background should not be made a part of the Cabinet. This was limited to people who had criminal chargesheets filed against them and were taken into consideration by a criminal court.
Meanwhile government had argued that only Parliament can decide the threshold of what would constitute as being a criminal past.
Notify that there are 13 ministers with criminal background in the Narendra Modi cabinet.
