Kolar: A truck had rammed into a Tirupati-bound bus near Mulbagal in Kolar district of Karnataka u=in which 16 people including two children died and several being injured on Monday afternoon.
Notify that six people died on the spot and 10 other died in hospital.
The Tumkur-Bangalore-Tirupati bus carrying 43 passengers was hit by the truck around 2.15pm. The identity of eight victims has been established.
Traffic was allowed on only one lane of the road as the road was being asphalted. A speeding sand-laden truck hit the bus crushing it. The impact of the collision was so severe that the right side of the bus was dented. Passengers seated on this side bore the brunt of the collision.
The victims include two-year-old Nikith Kumar from Palamaner in Andhra Pradesh, Jayamma (52) from Mulbagal, bus driver Gangadhar (42) from Tumkur district, Narayanamma (37) from Kolar taluk, Rajashekar (45) from Palamaner, Nagesh (40) from Kolar, Nagamani (57) and Bharathi (52).
Kolar MP KH Muniyappa and IG (Central Range) Syed Ulfath Hussain visited the hospital where 10 of the injured have been admitted. Six other injured persons are in another hospital.
MD of KSRTC Anjum Parvez visited the accident site. The KSRTC said the kin of dead passengers have been given Rs 15,000 in relief. It claimed the bus was new and had travelled about 18,000 km.
