Governor considering President’s Rule after split of Congress with NCP

Governor considering President’s Rule after split of Congress with NCPMumbai: Some sources had claimed that CV Rao the Governor of Maharashtra is considering to impose the President’s Rule in state after NCP had withdrawal its support from Congress.

Sources also said that Bharatiya Janata Party had also approached the Governor seeking the imposition of President’s rule.

The Governor can ask for President’s rule if the current government loses its mandate even though the elections have been notified legally.

Rao is likely to write to Ministry of Home Affairs seeking advice, said sources. Earlier in Andhra Pradesh former CM Kiran Kumar Reddy’s resignation has also led to the imposition of President’s rule in the state even though elections were round the corner.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) with 62 MLAs in the 288 seat Assembly withdrew support from the Congress-led government when talks over seat sharing for upcoming elections failed.

The election has now become a four-legged race after age-old alliances of Congress-NCP and Shiv Sena-BJP parted ways on Thursday.

NCP had declared on Thursday that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will be meeting the Governor to hand over his resignation and will withdraw the party’s support from the state government.
