New Delhi: Chinese President XI Jinping and Prime minister of India Narendra Modi had been agreed on Thursday to settle the border disputes as soon as possible and demarcate the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
They said that it will improve peace and cooperation between both countries.
Modi said after the conclusion of one-on-one meeting with visiting Chinese president Xi Jinping that India is concerned about the frequent incursions along the border. The Line of Actual Control should be demarcated soon to ensure peace and cooperation in the area, he said.
President Xi had also said that China will work to settle the border issue at the earliest date. HE also said since the border is not demarcated there will be some incidents, but both countries are capable of settling it at various levels so that they won’t have a bigger impact.
It has also been reported that around 1000 soldiers of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) had encroached 500 metres into the Chumar area. The stand-off in Demchok in Ladakh where Chinese nomads, Rebos, had pitched their tents is also continuing.
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, “The summit meetings are occasion for leaders to raise all substantive issues having bearing on bilateral ties, The Prime Minister took the opportunity to raise the issue last night with the visiting dignitary.”
President Xi Jinping had previously urged both countries to pursue developmental goals together.
At Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Xi said, “For both our countries development is top priority. We share the same developmental goals, same developmental philosophies.”
He also said, “We are the two largest developing economies, and two biggest markets. In an increasingly multipolar world our strategic and economic ties are important. Together we can bring prosperity to 2.5 billion people of Asia and opportunities to rest of the world.”
