New Delhi: Reports had claimed that Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu is likely to become the Chief Justice of India.
Sources claimed that the Centre has sent a file which recommended the name of HL Dattu for the CJI to Rashtrapati Bhavan for President Pranab Mukherjee’s approval.
Notify that Dattu is presently Supreme Court judge. He will replace CJI RM Lodha who retires on the 27th of September.
Justice Dattu will take charge as the CJI at a time when the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought in the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill which has scrapped the collegium system of appointing judges and calls for overhauling the judiciary.
