Bail plea of ‘Amma’ rejected by Karnataka High CourtBangalore: The bail plea of AIADMK chief and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa had been rejected by Karnataka High Court on Tuesday in the disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalithaa had maintained in her petition seeking immediate bail and challenging her sentence that the charges of amassing wealth against her were false and that she had acquired property through legal means. Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani was AIADMK supremo’s counsel.

Importantly, the prosecution said that it was not opposed to conditional bail to Jayalalithaa.

The court has also granted conditional bail to her aide Sasikala and her relatives VN Sudhakaran and Elavarasi, who were also convicted in the case.

However, details about the conditions imposed on Jayalalithaa and others are awaited.

Jayalalithaa has been jailed since September 27 after a special court in Bangalore sentenced her to four years in jail under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The court had also slapped a fine of Rs 100 crore on her in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case.
