Congress slams Tharoor for praising PM ModiNew Delhi: Congress had slammed its own Member of Parliament (MP) Shashi Tharoor on Monday for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress asked Shashi Tharoor to stop immediately eulogizing PM Modi and tread on the party line.

The immediate provocation for the party to take such a tough stand against the flamboyant MP is his acceptance of invitation extended to him by Modi to join Swachh Bharat Mission. Apart from him, Modi has roped in eight celebrities to the mission including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, industrialist Anil Ambani, film stars Salman Khan and Kamal Hassan.

Notify that Congress had showed its displeasure openly on Monday by asking him to stop extolling Modi at a press conference called by PCC vice-president MM Hassan at the Indira Bhavan.

Hassan said, “Party cannot accept Tharoor’s stance supporting Modi who is systematically annihilating the democratic and pluralistic characteristics of the country and no Congress worker can tolerate it.”

PCC president VM Sudheeran had endorse the decision of Hassan and said at a public function in Vadakara near Kozhikode that he would soon discuss the issue with chief minister Oommen Chandy and home minister and former PCC chief Ramesh Chennithala and take a decision on the step to be initiated against Tharoor.

Meanwhile Thaoor had clarified that he only supports some of the programmes and not the ideology of PM Narendra Modi.
