Mumbai: The Maharashtra president of Bharatiya Janata Party Devendra Fadnavis will swear in as the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The legislature of BJP had elected him for CM of state in MLA’s meeting.
44-year-old Fadnavis was the first choice and front runner for the post of CM. Amid the confusion, Gadkari met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday. There were indications the BJP’s parent body had endorsed Fadnavis as CM.
According to RSS insiders, Bhagwat wants Gadkari to remain at the Centre, and Fadnavis to take the reins of the state. The RSS chief is believed to have advised Fadnavis to take major decisions after consulting Gadkari.
Fadnavis had fought election from Nagpur seat and registered victory. Fadnavis, 44-year-old three-term legislator from Nagpur, will be the BJP’s first Maharashtra chief minister. The party’s legislators elected Fadnavis as their leader in Mumbai today and will soon meet the governor to stake claim to form government in the state.
